Nominations’ Diploma  for the graduation project ‘Auction House’, in the competition for the Annual Award of SARP (Association of Polish Architects) im. Zbyszko Zawistowskiego - ’Diploma of the Year’. Presentations of projects and results of the competition took place in the main board of SARP, in Warsaw, 9-10 April 2010.

Uroczystość wręczenia nagród odbyła się 17 listopada 2009  w małej sali obrad Urzędu Miasta Łodzi w obecności gospodarza spotkania, prezydenta Jerzego Kropiwnickiego, wszystkich studentów uczestników konkursu z promotorami, władz i wykładowców Politechniki Łódzkiej oraz Instytutu Architektury i Urbanistyki, oraz członków jury konkursowego.

Diploma - 3rd prize in the competition by the Mayor of Lodz “Revitalization of the historic monuments and the protection of historic areas of  the City of Lodz in the work of graduate students of Technical University of Lodz for the academic year 2008/2009″ for Piotr Cegielski for the work “Auction House – revitalization and expansion of the former building of the Municipal Credit Society at Pomorska Street 21 in Lodz”.

The award ceremony was held on November 17, 2009 in a small meeting room of the City Council of Lodz in the presence of a meeting host, President JerzyKropiwnicki, all the students participants in the contest with the promoters, the authorities and teachers of the Technical University of Lodz and  Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning, and the competition jury members.

       Jednym z celów projektu było przypomnienie jednego z najwspanialszych łódzkich zabytków czasów ‘ziemii obiecanej’. Jest to gmach mieszczący się przy ulicy Pomorskiej 21 w Łodzi, w którym w roku 1881 znalazło swoją siedzibę tzw.’Towarzystwo Kredytowe Miejskie’, instytucja która udzielając pożyczek na cele budowlane dla fabrykantów, przyczyniła się do największego rozwoju miasta w ostatnim ćwierćwieczu XIX wieku. Budynek autorstwa ówczesnego architekta miejskiego Hilarego Majewskiego, został zaprojektowany w stylu renesansowym, posiada majestatyczną 13-osiową fasadę znajdującą się od ulicy oraz wyróżnia się swoją formą na tle innych łódzkich zabytków, przypominając pałac niż typową kamienicę śródmiejską. Budynek wyróżnia się kilkoma elementami, które są rzadko spotykane:
- alegoryczne fibury kobiece umieszczone na szczytach ścian fasady
- dzwon giełdowy, zegar elewacyjny, bogato zdobiona stolarka okienna i drzwiowa
      Po wojnie w 1945 roku budynek został przejęty przez Armię Radziecką, a od końca lat pięćdziesiątych do 1996 roku mieścił Wydział Stomatologii Akademii Medycznej. Budynek wpisany do rejestru zabytków w 1971 roku, przez lata użytkowany niezgodnie z przeznaczniem, czekał na remont generalny już od 1984 roku. W chwili obecnej od połowy 2008 budynek jest remontowany, a koniec prac konserwatorskich przewidziano z końćem 2009 roku.

      One of the objectives of the project was a reminder of one of the greatest monuments of the time of Lodz’s ‘Promised Land’. This building is located on the Pomorska 21 Street in Lodz, which in 1881 was established the so-called ‘Credit Association of the City’, an institution which was providing loans for construction purposes for manufacturers, that has helped to develop the city in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The building was designed by the former city’s architect Hilary Majewski, in Renaissance style. It has a majestic 13-axial façade from the street and is distinguished by its form in comparison with other monuments in Lodz, recalling rather a palace than a typical downtown mansion house. The building is distinguished by a number of elements that are rare:
- allegorical females figures placed at the top of the walls of the facade
- bell ticker, clock facade, richly decorated windows and doors.
 
      After the second world war, in 1945 the building was taken over by the Soviet Army, and since the late fifties until 1996 housed the Faculty of Dentistry of Medical University. The building is treated as a monument from 1971, and throughout the years used in contravention of its original function, was waiting for general overhaul since 1984. At the moment, since mid-2008, the building is renovated, and the end of the maintenance work is provided for the end of 2009.
